Inviting Barbecued Pork Loin

- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup darkish brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon tabasco price accepted purple sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided in half
- 1 boneless pork loin (about 2 kilos; 6 inches long)
