This recipe is galvanized by a drink I fell in esteem with in India known as masala soda. It’s a fresh lime (or lemon) soda that is intensely flavored with masala (a combination of Indian spices), veritably jal jeera or chaat masala. It’s bitter, challenging, salty, sweet, reasonably funky from the sad salt and completely addicting. The easy syrup extinct on this recipe is easy to procure: gorgeous warmth equal ingredients water and white sugar except the sugar dissolves, after which store within the fridge except willing to use. The masala might presumably well also be bought on-line or in Indian grocery stores. —Leena Trivedi-Grenier
